Commission: Garrison Emofuri by MykeGreywolf Commission: Garrison Emofuri by MykeGreywolf
A commission for THAT1ANDONLY, who requested an Emofuri animation of his OC, Garrison. This is a reduced size of the full file, which I made available to him.

The animation shows him dozing off, then standing up to attention and saying "Hail Celestia!", then looking as the one who woke him leaves, then making a silly face, because it's his thing!

This sure was time-consuming to create, especially the armor - it required the inclusion of 8 separate custom elements, animated independently. Whew!

I used a japanese program called Emote Free Movie Maker (also known as Emofuri), specialized in this kind of animation.

You can find the program here: emote.mtwo.co.jp/emofuri.php

It's 100% in japanese, though. I know no more japanese than what my years of anime watching have afforded me, but I do know the katakana alphabet that they use to write foreign words, so that helped a lot.

You can find tutorials for it here: emofurihelp.tumblr.com/

Emotes are not just facial, they comprise some body movements as well.

The illusion of "3D" comes from the shading that I use for the drawing, plus an understanding of how motion affects the shape and position of the character's features. That understanding is achieved through study and observation of nature and the work of artists who came before us. Train your observation skills, think about the things you see, try and put them to practice, and you'll soon have an intuitive understanding of how these things work. :)

The program would not be too hard to use if it was not in japanese, but does demand some dedication to unlock its potential - and I'm pretty sure that I haven't tapped all of it yet. If you ever get to use it, I recommend you to fiddle with the included templates for a good while, until you're able to understand the effect of most of the buttons and sliders.
